Portuguese cuisine is rich in soups and stews. The dishes are often hefty, nutritious and very tasty. The picture above shows a stew made of cabbage, beans, pork and various types of chouriço (a kind of salami), served with boiled potatoes and rice. This dish is really recommended and is offered in the cooler season.

Bread soup

Bread soup (Migas or Açorda) was originally a “poor people” food. In the middle of the bowl, a raw egg is placed, which is stirred under the breadcrumbs when served. This dish is spiced with coriander herb (Coentro). This soup is available with a variety of additions (vegetables, meat, fish, etc.). The picture shows a variation refined with seafood.
