The beaches of the district of Tavira are situated upon the Islands of the natural reserve Ria Formosa.

This calm beach can be reached walking (roughly 2 km) from the Praia do Barril to the West. 

There is neither infrastructure nor are there lifeguards on the spot.

The beach and the locality Pedras d´el-Rei are well signposted on the N125. Big parking areas (partly for a fee) are at disposal. Please cross the wooden bridge; after about 150 m you reach a narrow-gauge railway, which carries you (for a fee: 1,50 €) to the beach being roughly 800 m away. Beside the railway line runs a solid foot path.

Here are restaurants, snackbars, cafés and sanitary facilities at your disposal. 

Lifeguards supervise people swimming and bathing.

The beach has an access for people with disabilities. 


Praia da Terra Estreita

You can reach the beach via Santa Luzia. The small town is well signposted on the N125 and in Tavira. There is a big and organised parking area near the jetties, from where you can cross over. A wooden gangplank goes from the landing to the beach (about 200 m). Alternatively, you can walk from the Praia do Barril or Praia de Tavira to the beach (each 1 km along the beach). There are a restaurant as well as sanitary facilities.

During the season are lifeguards in the field.

The beach and the jetties in Tavira are very well signposted, and big as well as organised parking places are available. There are diverse restaurants, cafés and sanitary facilities. 

Lifeguards supervise people swimming and bathing. 

Be careful: Near the port entrance exist strong currents!


Praia do Forte da Barra
(Ilha de Cabanas)

The beach lies at the western end of the island, directly in front of the port entrance of Tavira. It can be reached by boat. Alternatively, you can walk from the Praia do Golden or the Praia das Cabanas along the water towards west. Here is no infrastructure, instead it is very calm and peaceful, even in August.

Cabanas is well signposted on the N125. Parking places are sufficiently available. At the western landing go boats every minute (according to the season) to the landing of the beach.  Roughly 500 m of solid footpath have to be managed until you arrive at the beach. 

Lifeguards are on site during the season. 


Praia de Cabanas

Cabanas is well signposted on the N125, where you find organised parking places. From the eastern landing go boats every minute (subject to the season) to the landing of the beach. 

There are sanitary facilities and a restaurant.

Praia do Lacém
(Ilha de Cabanas)

The beach lies roughly 1,5 km east of the Praia de Cabanas and can be reached walking from there.  

There is no infrastructure, instead it is very calm and peaceful.
