Carrapateira has developed in the last years from a sedate fishing village to an insider’s tip for surfers.

Coordinates: 37°11’02″N 8°53’43″W

The village is situated directly beside the N268 between Vila do Bispo and Aljezur.

Around the Mercado Municipal homely cafés and restaurants are located as a meeting point for tourists and locals. In the village are banks and diverse shops.

The market is small and can be spotted at a glance. However, the products range from numerous types of fresh fruit and vegetable to a rich variety of freshly caught fish.

The really remarkable museum of the sea is situated upon a hill with a beautiful sight over the offshoots of the village up to the sea.

In the museum the diversity of the sea and the daily work of the fishermen are presented vividly.

The flora of the coast is shown to the visitor with living plants as well as with pictures.

Farming and distilling of spirits were additional activities of the population.

The work of the fishermen has been and up to date is hard as well as dangerous. Today such a wharf does not exist any more.

The entrance is free.
