Here you find the 13 beaches on the west coast of the Algarve starting from the North, at the border to the Alentejo.

The water is always cooler than at the southern coast of the Algarve, the waves and the surf are heavier. There are strong flows – a paradise for surfers and good / proficient swimmers.

Missing beaches are not listed because they are only accessible in a limited way or not at all for the moment or only by foot or perhaps with an SUV, however, they will be presented later on.

Navigation systems are to be used only partly. The way cannot be passed or the right way is not digitalized.

Tip: If you do not know how to get further, you can ask local people where to find beaches. The signposting is not always sufficient. Furthermore, you should have sun protection, beverages and snacks with you.

Praia de Odeceixe

The most northwestern beach of the Algarve is situated about 2 km western from the name giving location and is well signposted. In the north it touches the river Ribeira do Cerrado, which is the border to the Alentejo.
Above the beach there are sanitary facilities, cafés and restaurants.

Praia das Adegas
Official nudist beach

Only about 200 meters southern from the “Praia de Odeceixe” you will find this beautiful beach which is accessible via a short path of sand. Above there is a parking with good capacity as well as a place for caravans.

Praia do Vale dos Homens

You reach this beach via Rogil. It is well signposted and its paths are in good condition. You have access to the beach via a stairway with 283 steps. There are no sanitary facilities, no lifeguards and no catering facilities in the near.

Praia da Carreagem

Great beach (a mixture of sand and rocks) where are no sanitary facilities and no lifeguards. You approach it via Rogil while driving over gravel paths with many holes. A wooden stairway with 270 steps leads from the parking to the beach.

Praia da Amoreira

Large beach with two different accesses where at each end is a parking, a restaurant and sanitary facilities. The southern parking is separated from the beach by the river “Ribeira de Aljezur” but can be reached on foot.

Praia do Monte Clerigo

Large beach directly located at the street M-1003-1 along which many parking places are available. There are diverse restaurants, snack bars and cafés. At low tide remains a kind of natural pools at the northern end of the beach. A great fun for the kids!

Praia da Arrifana

Praia da Arrifana surely belongs to the most beautiful and spectacular beaches on the west coast of the Algarve. It is already well signposted by the N120 shortly before Aljezur. There is a first-class infrastructure in the area with restaurants, bars, snack bars, cafés, surf schools etc.

Praia da Bordeira

The beach is limited at its southern end by the river Ribeira da Carrapateira which is to be crossed as far as one uses the eastern parking. At low tide this is easily possible; at high tide it is difficult, partly even impossible. The easiest access is that from the parking places at the southern end from where a wooden footbridge leads to the beach. You find lifeguards on site during the bathing season as well as restaurants and cafés in the eastern surrounding.

Praia Amado

This beach being well signposted already on the N120 offers you sufficient parking places, a surf school, snack bars, cafés and sanitary facilities. A restaurant is located around 200 m northern on the cliffs.
