Lagoa is a town and a community (about 7,200 inhabitants) in the same-named county. In 2013 it was unified with the community Carvoeiro.
Coordinates: 37° 8′ N, 8° 27′ W
The place is somewhat elevated and is said to be surrounded earlier by a lagoon, which has given him its name.
Nowadays Lagoa is surrounded by vineyard cultivation, you find here the biggest wine cooperative of the Algarve.
The county town has evolved into a modern commercial and service center. The pedestrian zone invites visitors to stroll; cosy cafés and restaurants provide seats on the street.
In town you will come upon banks, a post office, various supermarkets and shopping centers.
Here and there: Neat green spaces or old and gnarly olive trees make the townscape less monotonous.
The Jardim dos Combatentes (garden of the warriors) in front of the church is in memory of the inhabitants that were killed in action in the diverse colonies.
The public library is directly by the church.
Music events, wine festivals, medieval markets, the market of the cultures and trade fairs take place regularly in Lagoa and its environs.
The streets of the town center around the market hall have been converted up to 2017. The former traffic and parking chaos was modified by means of one-way streets and traffic calming into an agreeable shopping street and a venue for the inhabitants.
