Luz is a community (about 3,500 inhabitants) and a small town in the county of Lagos.

Coordinates: 37° 5′ N, 8° 44′ W

The town is situated about 4 km west of Lagos and it is well signposted from the N125.



The small town of Luz (light) has its name with good reason. In this bay prevails a particularly pleasant light all over the year.

There are banks, a post office, restaurants, cafés, pubs, snackbars, bistros and many shops in the town. The seaport of Lagos can be reached within a few minutes by car.


At the eastern edge of the promenade is an organised parking area (for a fee). Restaurants, cafés and shops tempt you to linger here as well as to go shopping.



Townhouses and villas are quite close to the beach promenade.

Foundations of the Roman era have been revealed directly on the promenade. They are only separated by the town wall. Visiting is possible and free.



The Fortaleza da Luz served as defense against pirate attacks.



Today apartments and a restaurant are in the building.



In the Igreja da Luz de Lagos church services are held in different languages.



The altar in the church is covered with gold.
