Description of the beaches in the westernmost part of the southern coast of the Algarve starting from Praia da Luz up to the mouth of the river Rio do Alvor.
Praia da Luz
On the N125, shortly after Lagos, Luz is well signposted. Many parking facilities (some of them for a fee) exist in the village near the beach. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, cafés, snack bars, etc. Lifeguards are on the spot.
Praia do Porto de Mós

This beach is accessible for people with disabilities.
Praia do Canavial
This narrow beach (please only visit at low tide) is accessible via two foot paths. Option 1: East of Porto de Mós over a 300 m long way across the cliffs. Option 2: From the pharos Ponta da Piedade along the coast up to a foot path downwards to the beach. It is very quiet here, nevertheless there are no lifeguards.
Praia do Barranco do Martinho
This very beautiful little bathing bay lies between bold cliffs and is situated about 250 m west of the parking area (Ponta da Piedada). The descent across the cliffs is difficult but realisable. Sturdy shoes are useful. There is no infrastructure.
Praia do Camilo
The beach is well signposted on the N125 starting from Lagos and a parking area is at disposal. You reach the beach via a wooden stairway with about 180 steps. The beach consists of two bathing bays that are combined by a tunnel in the rocks. Beside the parking area is a restaurant as well as sanitary facilities. In the season lifeguards are on site.
Praia Dona Ana
Being one of the most famous beaches and a most popular photo scene of the Algarve, the Praia Dona Ana is well signposted. There are parking places and an excellent infrastructure. Many people come to see this beach in the season.

Praia da Batata
The beach lies in Lagos by the N125 shortly before the entrance of the harbor. There are sanitary facilities, diverse shops, restaurants and cafés. The old town of Lagos can be reached within a few minutes on foot.
Praia de Sao Roque
The access is signposted from the N125 on. You should follow the signposting for Meia Praia. As soon as you have reached the road at the beach of the Atlantic, you keep to the right side where parking places are situated. This beach begins in the West at the entrance of the harbour of Lagos and melts eastern with Meia Praia. There are restaurants, snack bars cafés and sanitary facilities. Lifeguards are on site.
Meia Praia
Already on the N125 the beach is very well signposted. There are very many parking places along the coastal road M534 and plenty of restaurants, snack bars, cafés and sanitary facilities. Lifeguards are on the spot.
It depends on the season in how far you find here options for activities, like paragliding, banana boat, kite surfing, etc.
The beach is qualified for families with children because the shore is plane and drifts are hardly noticeable.
Praia do Vale da Lama
This beach is directly linked with Meia Praia and ends at the entrance of the harbour at Alvor, at Ribeira de Odiáxere. Here you find calmness and recovery. Thus, you have to renounce any infrastructure but you can go to the West (200 – 1,000 m) and use the facilities of Meia Praia.
