Description of the beaches in the district of Lagoa starting from the  Rio Arade up to Alporchinhos. Missing beaches can be reached very difficultly or only from water – but they will be added later.

Praia da Angrinha

The beach is by the eastern riverside of the Rio Arade at the foot of the hill of Ferragudo. The place is well signposted and the beach is located near the resort Vila Castelo. Close to the beach are parking places. There is no infrastructure, however, Ferragudo with its manifold opportunities is only about 300 m away.

Praia Grande
Ferragudo

The place Ferragudo and the beach are well signposted. As parking place the area in front of the Praia da Angrinha is recommendable, since the street is very narrow and often jammed by buses. From there it is a footpath of 250 m. The beach lies by the mouth of the Rio Arade. You have a magnificent view over the port entrance. You can thus, while swimming, even watch the cruisers when these enter the port of Portimão.

Restaurants, snackbars, cafés and sanitary facilities are on the beach.

Lifeguards are on site during the season.

Praia do Molhe

On the coastal road between Ferragudo and Carvoeiro this beach is signposted. Above the beach is a parking area and a restaurant. You have here a terrific view onto the city of Portimão and the harbour. A stairway ending at the jetty, which separates the Atlantic and the Rio Arade, goes down to the beach. There are no lifeguards on site.

Praia do Pintadinho

This beach is signposted on the coastal road between Ferragudo and Carvoeiro. There are some parking places and a snackbar right on the beach. Sanitary facilities exist, and lifeguards are on site during the season.

Praia dos Caneiros

On the coastal road between Ferragudo and Carvoeiro you go through the hollow of a valley. Follow the signposting and after about 100 m you will find a small organised parking area from which a wooden stairway goes down to the beach. In the main season (August) it may be difficult to find a parking space thereabout.

On the beach are a restaurant / snackbar and sanitary facilities.  Lifeguards are on the spot during the season.

Praia do Paraíso

The beach lies roughly 100 m west of the center of Carvoeiro. Above the beach is a small parking area (further parking facilities are at the Monte Carvoeiro about 100 m away). From here a stairway of stone goes down to the small and beautiful beach. At the parking area and in the near surroundings are restaurants and sanitary facilities. There are no lifeguards on site.

Praia do Carvoeiro

Well-known beach right in the center of Carvoeiro.

Here you find everything a beautiful vacation represents. The tourist information is only a few steps away and there are numerous restaurants, snackbars, cafés, sanitary facilities, etc. In the summer months life music is offered on the beach and cocktail bars open in the evening.

From here you can start for cave tours.

During the season the beach is supervised by lifeguards.

Praia de Vale Centianes

The beach lies roughly 2,500 m east of the center of Carvoeiro and is well signposted. Right on the street going to the beach are parking places. A restaurant and sanitary facilities exist on the beach, further opportunities are in the vicinity.

Lifeguards are on the spot during the season.

The beach is accessible for people with disabilities including disabled parking spaces.

Praia do Carvalho

If you take the coastal road toward east (coming from Carvoeiro and following the signposting), you enter the > Algarve Clube Atlantico < after roughly 5 km. Keep driving straight ahead up to a parking place from where a stairway of stone goes down to the beach. Alternatively, there is an access via Benagil from where an unpaved path (deep holes) goes to the cliffs above the beach.

The beach is known from former times also as smugglers’ beach. It can only be reached through a narrow tunnel. Due to the erosion there are many natural caves where goods could be hidden.

The beach has no infrastructure.

Praia de Benagil

Take the N125, in Lagoa go towards Carvoeiro. Just shortly after the town exit, the locality and the corresponding beach are well signposted. In Benagil are many parking places at disposal. The spectacular cave tours start from here.

There are a snackbar and sanitary facilities. Lifeguards are not on site. In close vicinity to the beach are further restaurants.

The beach is accessible for people with disabilities and corresponding parking spaces are right in front of the beach.

Praia da Marinha

The beach is well signposted already on the N125 and disposes of good parking facilities.

On the parking place is a picnic area (bring your own …). During the season exist pedlars with fruit, beverages and bathing accessories.

Cave tours can be booked.

The access to the beach is east of (left hand) the parking area and runs down via a slick stone path and a wooden stairway.

A snack bar and sanitary facilities are on the beach. During the season are lifeguards on site.

Praia da Balhada do Baraco
exclusively accessible from the water

A very beautiful beach which can only be reached from the waterside. The beach is visible about 300 m east of the Praia da Marinha and from the cliff trail.

The beach is often used for having a break during an organised boat tour along the coast. People go swimming or barbecue on this occasion.

Here is no infrastructure.

Praia do Barranquinho

A beautiful, small and lonely beach which can be reached by walking through the cliffs from the Praia da Marinha toward east or from the Praia da Albandeira toward west.

Here is no infrastructure.

Praia da Albandeira

The beach is well signposted from the N125. The street, being narrow on the last 2,5 km (Mind the oncoming traffic!) and having many turnouts, ends up on a big parking area.

Above the beach are a snackbar and sanitary facilities.

The beach is divided into two parts and the western part can be reached (only on low tide) through a natural aperture in the rock.

There are no lifeguards.

Praia Nova

This beach is not signposted but easy to find. In Armação de Pêra you follow the signposting >Praia da Senhora da Rocha< until you see a small chapel upon the rock in front of the sea. There is a parking area (with bistro and restaurant) which you can use. On the right side to the parking area goes a path over the cliffs, and after 70 m a stairway of stone with 95 steps leads down to the beach.

No infrastructure exists right on the beach.

Praia da Senhora da Rocha

This well-known beach is very well signposted in Armação de Pêra. Parking places and parking areas are indicated.

On the beach are a snackbar and sanitary facilities.

During the season are lifeguards on site.

In the near surroundings are further restaurants, snackbars, bistros and cafés.

The beach is accessible for people with disabilities including special parking spaces.

Praia da Cova Redonda

The Cova Redonda is well signposted from the main street (between Armação de Pêra and Porches). Starting from the parking facilities goes a slightly descending path (with steps) between the adjacent villas down to the beach.

On the beach are a restaurant / café and sanitary facilities.

Praia dos Tremoços

Beach beneath the Vila Vita Park, a five star resort. You can reach this beach through the cliffs crossing the Praias Vale do Olival and dos Beijinhos.

There is no infrastructure.

Praia dos Beijinhos

The beach can only be reached walking over the cliffs and the Praia Vale do Olival toward west. There are much fewer activities than on the more eastern situated (150 to 300 m) beaches, also no infrastructure can be found.

Praia de Vale do Olival

Starting from Porches (N125) you leave the first roundabout in Armação de Pêra at the first exit. Just behind is a big parking area (to the right) at your disposal.

There are diverse restaurants, cafés, snackbars and sanitary facilities.

Lifeguards are on site in the season.
