Caldas de Monchique is a spa being located about 6 km south of the county town of Monchique.

Coordinates: 37°17’09.5″N 8°33’13.1″W

The place is situated by the N266 between Portimão and Monchique and is signposted there. The whole place consists of just a few one-way streets with marked parking places.


Caldas de Monchique extends in a valley. Healing springs raise to the surface north of the locality having a temperature of 32° C and containing minerals and sulphur. The bottling plant for the natural spring water, being accommodated in a simple industrial building, is at the below (southern) end of the place.



Already the Romans knew the place, realised the healing effect of the water and completely cured here their illnesses and injuries.



After the banishment of the Moors in the 14th century nobles and kings of Portugal took here.


Everything here emits tranquility. The streets are surrounded by trees, and one finds always a shady place.



A typical baking oven in the center of the village which is still in regular operation until today.


Even in the summer months flows water here; a walk in the evergreen nature makes restful.



From here guided walking tours to the Foia (highest mountain of the Algarve) are offered.


The locality reminisces about the fin de siècle.



The little church in the village that currently is not employed for masses.
