Ameixial is a village and a community (about 450 inhabitants) in the northern county of Loul\u00e9 at the border with the Alentejo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coordinates: 37\u00b0 22\u2032 N, 7\u00b0 58\u2032 W
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The village is situated by the N2 which once has been the most important connection between Faro and Lisbon.<\/span><\/p>\n

The special architectural style of many of the town’s houses can only be seen in this community in the Algarve.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The N2 running through the locality is little used today.\u00a0<\/span>
\nIn the village are banks, the post office, shops, restaurants and caf\u00e9s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Igreja Matriz de Santo Ant\u00f3nio<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Igreja Matriz de Santo Ant\u00f3nio was erected in the 16th century and has been reconstructed at the end of the 18th century after it had been damaged heavily by the earthquake of 1755.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The church can only be visited during the service.<\/span><\/p>\n
