The cloister was founded between 1710 and 1713 by nuns of the Carmelite Order.

They accommodated female orphans or abandoned girls and gave them an education.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the beginning of the 19th century the convent went through changeful years. Finally, the Dominican nuns took possession of the convent in 1876.<\/span><\/p>\n

The building is in a sound condition. The cloistered courtyard as well as the various exhibits are worth visiting.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nTuesday to Saturday 9 h – 12:30 h and 14 – 17 h<\/span><\/p>\n

The entrance is free. At the reception are free flyers to take away about the convent as well as about the region.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Every year the cloister and the surrounding streets host the market of cultures. Handicraft and culinary of the three cultures (Muslims, Jews and Christians) are offered at diverse booths to the guests.<\/span><\/p>\n

Barbecued meat, other delicacies and drinks are provided. Music is part of the framework programme.<\/span><\/p>\n

The trade fair for confectionary in Lagoa is very popular with all age groups. The companies of the county present their products during 3 days per year in the convent and on the open spaces surrounding it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Products are offered which reflect the Moorish influence on the Algarve. A varied programme supports the event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
