The Fortaleza de Beliche is situated by the road (N268) between Sagres and the Cabo de S\u00e3o Vicente.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIn 1587 the fort was destroyed by the navigator Sir Francis Drake except for the chapel Santa Catarina and reconstructed in 1632. In the event of the big earthquake of 1755 again it was destroyed completely.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAfter lying in ruins for nearly 200 years, it has been restored in 1960 on occasion of the 500th anniversary of Henry the Navigator’s death.<\/span><\/p>\n
