Moncarapacho is a small town and was a community (about 7,700 inhabitants) in the county of Olh\u00e3o. In 2013 the new community Moncarapacho e Fuseta has been created.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coordinates: 37\u00b0 5\u2032 N, 7\u00b0 47\u2032 W<\/span><\/p>\n

The small town is located southwest of the Serra de Monte Figo, about 6 km north of Olh\u00e3o and 15 km northwest of Faro. Parking can be found in the area with some difficulty (depending on the season).<\/span><\/p>\n

When the Romans occupied the region in the 2nd century a. Chr. n., the place had already been fortified and surrounded by watchtowers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The entire historic center is now a listed building and is lovingly renovated.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although everything in the village is very original, there are also modern buildings. There are banks, the post office, shops, restaurants and cafes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mercado Municipal<\/span><\/h3>\n

Home grown products are sold on the market. The range depends on the current harvest.<\/span><\/p>\n

A good selection of fresh fish from the nearby Atlantic Ocean is well chilled here.<\/span><\/p>\n

Igreja Matriz de Moncarapacho<\/span><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/h3>\n

A medieval temple was expanded and built up from 1471on to Igreja Matriz. The 1755 earthquake appears to have largely spared the building. Inside, you can see paintings and sculptures from the 16th to 18th centuries.<\/span><\/p>\n

The church can be visited during mass times.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Igreja da Miseric\u00f3rdia is a simple church built in the first half of the 16th century.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ermida de Santo Cristo<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

The Ermida de Santo Cristo was built in the early 17th century. It was an important and much visited pilgrimage site well into the 18th century. Traditions tell of a paralysed man who was healed here.<\/span><\/p>\n

The chapel can only be visited in conjunction with the nearby Museu Parroquial.<\/span><\/div>\n
